Values of stories is a very important value that people should take from childhood to adulthood, a value that helps children be children and adults to have some place to run away to, to be a child again. Stories come in to play as making a point to a child that has done something wrong or right, a story that has a consequence and a reward for their actions. I myself love to read stories especially those that tell of romance, friendship, sacrifice, reward, and consequence. Stories help generations understand and know where they came from. Without these stories of ancestors people would be lost, not knowing who they are and where they belong; these stories tell of the hardship that ancestors did to get their family to America or to where they are now.
In Frankie Lennon's book Mee Street Chronicles: Straight Up Stories of a Black Woman's Life there are a couple of values that I take from those stories which would be: be the person that you are born to be and your sexuality should not be judged. The value of being the person that you are born to be is that God made you in his image so be proud of that image. If for some reason you turned out to be different be proud of that difference, a person is different to stand out in a crowd as a positive difference but that we as human beings are all the same; have the same feelings and emotions. I believe that you should not hide who you are because then there would be that point in your life that your not happy with yourself. Society needs to learn that change is going to happen, people are all different, and that people need to be who they are and not what society tells them. The other value would be that people should not be judged on their sexuality, there is no reason that people should be judged because 'yes' a person might have a different sexual preference but that is about it; nothing else changes about the person being human. As for me even though I am a heterosexual, I don't see a reason for their to be a discrimination on what peoples sexual preferences are because as long as that person is happy that is all that matters. I do not see homosexuals as a person that is confused or punished by God but as a fact that all are different.
There are two values that I have taken from Frankie Lennon's Blog The book of Days III: Part 1-Women Who Run with the Wolves would be that we take stories as "makers of life's journeys" meaning that people tell stories to tell of what they have gone through in their life, which depicts that every one has a story that is different, of how they grew up, what they became to be, and if they were happy with their life. These stories are mostly passed down or remembered to remind ourselves what the person has gone through in their life and not to forget who they are. The other value would be sacrifice and hope because in our life sooner or later, as adults, we will have to make certain decisions that will change our life forever, decisions that can not be taken back, sacrifices that will have to be made for families and relationships, and hopes that a person will come out of them and there will be "greener grass on the other side."
